Head of the NAM Pavel Latushka - on Austria's attempt to limit sectoral sanctions

Archive news

Austrian businessmen have large businesses in Belarus in the banking and woodworking industries. Yesterday it became known that Austria is trying to ease sectoral sanctions against the regime.

In a resolution of June 10, the European Parliament calls on the EU Council to introduce broad sectoral sanctions against the dictatorship in Belarus as soon as possible, including those affecting the banking sector and wood processing.

— It is simply unacceptable to prioritize super profits in business over the rights and freedoms of citizens of an entire state. We conveyed this position to the Austrian government and the EU, — Pavel Latushka said.

The NAM contacted the Austrian Foreign Ministry on this issue, negotiations were held with the European External Action Service, and letters were sent to the deputies of the Austrian parliament and the Austrian foreign minister.
