The British Foreign Office has responded to the NAM’s appeal by saying that the regimes that unleashed the war in Ukraine should be completely isolated on the world stage
The NAM is continuing its campaign "Putin's puppet, Alexander Lukashenko, must be punished" by sending out an article of the same name published in the British weekly The New European to leaders and diplomats of the world’s leading powers and is already receiving feedback.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) thanked Pavel Latushka for the letter, and said:
— The UK recognises Belarus' complicity in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and calls on it to stop supporting the military aggression;
— the aggressors will be forced to feel the economic consequences of their criminal actions;
— the UK has already imposed trade, financial and aviation sanctions against the Lukashenko regime, as well as sanctions on Lukashenko himself and over 100 other individuals and entities who have supported the war in Ukraine.
— The UK acknowledges that the Lukashenko regime does not speak for the majority of the Belarusian people and condemns the ongoing repression of human rights and fundamental freedoms of the people of Belarus.
The response concludes with words of support for the extraordinary courage of the Belarusian opposition and civil society.
