The topic of Latvia supporting the Lithuanian government refers to the International Criminal Court to investigate the situation related to crimes against humanity committed against the Belarusian people was discussed during a meeting between the Deputy Head of the United Transitional Cabinet, Head of the National Anti-Crisis Management Pavel Latushka, and the Latvian Ambassador to Poland, Juris Poikāns.
During the meeting, Pavel Latushka handed over a Aide-mémoire and materials related to the collected evidence base and justifications for the investigation of crimes against humanity committed against the Belarusian people by the Office of the Prosecutor of the ICC, with a request to transfer these materials to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. An agreement was reached to continue cooperation, as well as to exchange information on the prospects of the ICC investigating the crimes of Lukashenko and his associates.
"For us, Latvia's support is crucial in holding representatives of Lukashenko's regime accountable for crimes against humanity", noted Pavel Latushka.
As the leader of the fraction in the Coordination Council, Pavel Latushka also handed over to the Latvian Ambassador the resolution of the Coordination Council "On Appeals for Visa Facilitation and Improvement of Border Movement Concerning Belarusians", requesting that it be forwarded to the Latvian Parliament, and emphasized the importance of maintaining mobility for Belarusians when visiting the European Union.
Pavel Latushka continues active consultations with ambassadors and diplomats from EU member states and other democratic countries on the use of international justice mechanisms to hold Lukashenko and his accomplices accountable, as well as on supporting democratic reforms in Belarus. Meetings have already been held between Pavel Latushka and representatives of the foreign ministries, ambassadors, and diplomats of Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, France, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, and other countries.
