Democracy will prevail in Belarus only when accountability is established

During the meeting between Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Pavel Latushka, and Bundestag Vice President Yvonne Magwas on October 15 in Berlin, the head of NAM expressed the following position:

"A bandit is in power in Belarus. A bandit who, throughout his time in power, has committed an enormous number of crimes. In recent years, these have included crimes against humanity directed at the Belarusian people, and war crimes such as the illegal transfer of Ukrainian children. The majority of Belarusians believe in justice and the need to hold those responsible accountable. I have asked German parliamentarians to advocate for the issue of Lukashenko’s accountability for the crimes committed against the Belarusian people.

It is important for us to send a clear signal to the elites around Lukashenko: they will have to make a choice — either continue supporting an international criminal or work towards building a truly independent, democratic, European Belarus".

Pavel Latushka also emphasized in his conversation with the Vice President of the Bundestag that it is crucial to continue supporting Belarusian society, maintaining pressure on the regime, holding Lukashenko accountable, refusing to recognize what Lukashenko calls elections, preventing Belarus from becoming a new North Korea, issuing more visas, and preserving the possibility for Belarusians to leave for the European Union.

"Lukashenko must not be allowed to escape responsibility again. Enough of these ripples in the water. It is necessary to take a principled stance and dismantle the regime as a system in Belarus.

We need a proactive, not reactive, position from German parliamentarians", — Pavel Latushka stated.
