Resolution of the French National Assembly of January 17

Most importantly

Firstly, this is an important practical result of our visit to France on December 14, 2021. And what makes it especially important is the fact that France will preside over the EU for the next 6 months.

Secondly, the Resolution clearly states: Lukashenka is an unrecognized president. Recall that the official international legal non-recognition of Lukashenka is goal No. 1 in the strategy of the National Anti-Crisis Management.

Thirdly, the National Assembly of France initiates the possibility of creating an international group to interact and establish relations with the Belarusian democratic forces.

Other important points include a strong condemnation of repression and torture in Belarus, the hijacking and forced landing of a Ryanair plane, the migrant crisis, the demand for the immediate release of political prisoners and the holding of new elections under the auspices of the OSCE.

In addition, it should be noted that the fact of non-recognition and the requirements prescribed in the Resolution were also voiced by French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian:

"There can be no dialogue with Lukashenka as long as repressions and strangulation of civil society continue. There can be no recognition of the Belarusian authorities until new free and transparent elections are organized under the auspices of the OSCE."

What’s next?

The formal status of a rogue regime should have practical implications for it. Including the non-recognition of Lukashenka’s right to hold a "referendum".
